Job summary

Palms Behavioral Health in Harlingen, Texas seeks an Intake RN to manage patient intake, admissions, and related assessments. You will screen, verify insurance, and coordinate with physicians to determine level of care and obtain pre-certifications, while collaborating with nursing and business office staff.

Required RN licensure with preferred BSN and experience in mental health admissions or related fields.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
• BSN preferred.
• Experience in mental health admissions or related fields is advantageous.
• Strong interviewing, assessment, and communication with external review entities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates admissions and assessment processes for incoming patients and initiates integrated assessment.
• Collaborates with facility staff to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions.
• Provides coverage for call center duties: answering calls, processing admission requests, verifying insurance, and pre-certifications during high volume.
• Gathers medical admission documentation and secures initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission.
• Reviews charts for medical necessity and coordinates with physicians for orders and DSM-V diagnoses.
• Communicates treatment recommendations to other treatment teams and coordinates levels of care.
• Administers medications as directed and educates patients on side effects under supervision.
• Maintains medication accountability and ensures documentation of ADRs and common psychiatric medications.
• Assists with admission transfer between levels of care and responds to facility inquiries.
• Performs insurance verifications and provides ongoing assessment of patient status in admissions.
