Job summary

New York State Office of Mental Health seeks a Mental Health Program Specialist 2 to collaborate with agencies, peers, and communities on standardized behavioral health crisis responses. The role focuses on policy guidance, protocol design, and stakeholder engagement to improve crisis services and outcomes.

The ideal candidate has clinical/administrative expertise, strong communication, and a demonstrated commitment to lived-experience voices in service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and three years of professional clinical or administrative experience in a mental health program.
  • Master's degree can substitute for one year of specialized experience.
  • Preferred candidates have lived mental health experience and/or professional advocacy background.
  • Strong clinical and administrative skills with excellent writing and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance behavioral health initiatives.
  • Design and implement crisis service protocols and procedures, emphasizing peer voice.
  • Guide local government units on program requirements and OMH/OASAS policies.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes and quality of care data.
  • Develop and coordinate training sessions for stakeholders, including local government units.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
