Murdoch Developmental Center is currently accepting applications for Behavioral Health Coaches (Youth Program Education Assistant I's). Behavioral Health Coaches provide direct support and facilitate daily programming activities for intellectually/developmentally disabled children, teens, and young adults who exhibit extreme behavioral challenges. Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Providing supervision and ensuring safety of individuals
• Assisting in educational and/or vocational programming
• Facilitating indoor/outdoor leisure activities and encouraging participation
• Crisis-intervention which includes de-escalation of aggressive individuals and, at times, physical interventions
• Facilitate goals in areas of grooming, hygiene, dining, and residential skills to promote independence
• Participate in Community outings
• Assisting individuals in areas of daily living skills while promoting their independence
• Transportation when needed for school, outings, appointment, etc.
• Writing monthly progress notes for goals and recording of behavior data
• Meal preparation and following nutrition guidelines
• Coaching in areas of social skills, community safety awareness, problem solving

Multiple positions and shifts available across several programs. These full-time positions are eligible for the full State of North Carolina employee benefit package including health insurance and retirement benefits.

1st Shift: 6:30am–3:00pm 5% Weekend Only2nd Shift 11:30am-8:00pm (Floater) 20% Weekday & 25% Weekend2nd Shift: 2:30pm–11:00pm 20% Weekday & 25% Weekend3rd Shift: 10:45pm-6:45am 10% Weekday & 15% Weekends

Shifts include alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled. These positions are designated as mandatory and required to work as scheduled during periods of inclement weather.

Management Preferences:

• Previous experience providing support to individuals who exhibit extreme behavioral challenges that may escalate to physically aggressive behavior
• Experience in utilizing de-escalation strategies with individuals
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow both oral and written instructions
• Demonstrated ability to implement behavior support plans
• Prior experience in assisting individuals in educational and/or vocational programming
• Ability to report information both orally and in writing
• Ability to obtain and maintain all facility required training (CPI, CPR, First Aid, and other job-related training)

Associate's Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution;

OR

high school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of directly related experience; or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care. (Not Required at MURDOCH DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER)

NAI and NAII Certification is NOT required for this position.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus**

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
