Description

The Behavioral Health Clinician II will be an integral member of the medical team, assisting in managing the overall health of the child or adolescent. The clinician will recognize, address, and monitor lifestyle or behavioral factors related to illness, injury, mental health, and/or substance use. BHCs will demonstrate competency in psychosocial assessment and treatment approaches using evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions. BHCs may also intervene during psychiatric crises, address maltreatment concerns, or provide resources related to social determinants of health. BHC II can work independently as a terminally licensed clinician, i.e., LPC/LCSW.

  1. Complete psychosocial assessments with corresponding therapeutic interventions to address emotional/behavioral symptoms of patients in an ambulatory setting.
  2. Perform chart reviews and document treatment progress in the medical record in a professional manner.
  3. Maintain a schedule of therapeutic follow-up with those patients and families for whom continued support is recommended until either treatment goals are met or care can be transitioned to a community behavioral health provider (if appropriate).
  4. Educate others on behavioral health symptomology, treatment options and efficacies, and the impact of trauma and mental health on overall well-being.
  5. Attend and participate in medical staffing and case conferences, perform chart reviews, and document treatment progress in the medical record in a professional manner.
  6. Develop positive and productive relationships with community-based organizations, outpatient behavioral health agencies, and acute or residential psychiatric treatment facilities.
  7. Recommend dispositions that prioritize patient and staff safety and aid the team in transitioning to the appropriate level of care.
  8. Manage time and job responsibilities in an efficient and organized way.
  9. Direct the referral efforts of Community Health Workers to ensure patients establish care or support from community-based organizations.
  10. Provide clinical supervision and consultation on ethical dilemmas, safety concerns, professional practice standards, and ensure competency for LAC/LMSW to move from supervised to independent practice.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
