Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C, Behavioral Health, PRN

Position is located in the Adult Psych department.

Under general supervision, provides therapeutic interventions and advanced social work services to patients and their families, ensuring comprehensive and continuous care across the continuum and in the community. Acts as a resource to Clinical Social Worker I incumbents. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers in accordance with UMMS and departmental policies.

General Summary

Functions autonomously as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing case management, crisis intervention, biopsychosocial assessments, therapy, counseling, referrals, and treatment planning. Maintains expert knowledge of community resources and applies understanding of social determinants of health and best practices to enhance patient functioning within their psychosocial environment.

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following describes the general work performed; this is not an exhaustive list.

  • Oversees clinical assessments performed by supervisees and provides specialized assessments as needed. Offers feedback to improve assessment tools.
  • Serves as the psychosocial expert to ensure care plans are culturally sensitive and comprehensive, including recommendations for emotional and behavioral health treatments and advance care planning.
  • Provides and models advanced clinical care within the practice setting, offering expertise across social work practices.
  • Analyzes department performance and provides feedback on care interventions.
  • Reviews clinical charts, shares community resources, and evaluates referral sources to optimize care and address social determinants of health.
  • Provides counseling to staff on counseling practices and techniques, working with patients with complex needs.
  • Offers clinical supervision to licensed social workers seeking licensure, under a written contract per the Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Provides consultations within the healthcare system.
  • Leads patient education and social work practice training within the healthcare setting.
  • Advocates for team members and supervisees, maintains service statistics, and ensures equitable workload distribution.
  • Engages in professional development and networking through professional organizations.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop policies ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Completes all assigned tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Maryland state Social Work licensure and credentials as a Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) are required.
  • Two years of applicable experience in a Behavioral Health setting is preferred.
  • Three years of social work experience is required.
