Job description

Job Description - Behavioral Health Care Manager (Remote, California Licensed)

This role is a Triage call center position with shifts Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Pacific Time.

Under general supervision, in collaboration with the clinical team, the responsibilities include authorizing and reviewing utilization of mental health and substance abuse services in inpatient and outpatient settings. The role involves data analysis, discharge planning, care coordination, crisis intervention, and participation in quality improvement projects.

  1. Monitor inpatient and outpatient services for medical necessity and effectiveness.
  2. Provide telephone triage, crisis intervention, and emergency authorizations.
  3. Perform concurrent reviews within scope of practice and experience.
  4. Develop and oversee discharge plans with providers and facilities.
  5. Conduct clinical reviews, educate, and intervene to improve member care.
  6. Inform members and providers about benefits, resources, and company policies.
  7. Collaborate with Physician Advisors on clinical and authorization matters.
  8. Participate in quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis.
  9. Maintain an active workload aligned with performance standards.
  10. Engage with community agencies and propose treatment alternatives when necessary.
  11. Contribute to network development by identifying and recruiting quality providers.
  12. Advocate for patient needs and interact professionally with providers.
Other Job Requirements

Licensure is mandatory, requiring a current license meeting state, commonwealth, or client-specific standards. Required licenses include CEAP, LMSW, LCSW, LSW, LPC, or RN, with at least 2 years of post-degree experience in healthcare, behavioral health, psychiatric, or substance abuse settings. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills are essential. Knowledge of utilization management, community resources, DSM V, and inpatient/outpatient settings is required.
