Job description

As a Behavioral Health Care Manager, you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals navigating cancer treatment and related challenges. Working within an integrated collaborative care model, you will provide personalized behavioral health support to oncology patients through virtual consultations and ongoing care coordination. You will conduct clinical assessments, develop tailored treatment plans, and implement therapeutic interventions to improve patients' emotional well-being and overall quality of life. Collaborating closely with oncology providers and consulting psychiatrists, you will ensure patients receive coordinated, accessible, and effective care throughout their treatment journey. You will also monitor clinical progress, maintain accurate patient records, and adapt interventions based on individual needs. This remote opportunity offers a meaningful chance to contribute to the advancement of psycho-oncology care within a supportive, multidisciplinary, and mission-driven healthcare environment.

Accountabilities
  • Conduct comprehensive and structured assessments of the mental health, behavioral health, and overall functioning of oncology patients referred by partner cancer centers and clinics.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments, using evidence-based modular therapeutic approaches tailored to patients' needs.
  • Deliver evidence-based behavioral health interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other appropriate treatment modalities.
  • Provide virtual mental health care through video consultations, telephone sessions, and between-session messaging when clinically appropriate.
  • Continuously assess patient progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and adjust therapeutic interventions and care plans according to individual outcomes and evolving needs.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date patient registry in accordance with Collaborative Care Model requirements.
  • Participate in regular consultation meetings with the consulting psychiatrist to review cases, discuss treatment strategies, and coordinate clinical recommendations.
  • Collaborate with oncology providers and multidisciplinary care teams, communicating patient progress, clinical recommendations, and relevant treatment updates.
  • Attend care coordination meetings as needed to ensure continuity and integration of behavioral health services within oncology treatment plans.
  • Manage an assigned patient caseload while targeting approximately 65% patient-facing time.
  • Participate in initial and ongoing clinical training to strengthen knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches and specialized psycho-oncology care.
  • Engage in ongoing clinical supervision, departmental meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain appropriate professional licensure in your home state, if licensed, and obtain additional state licenses when requested and required for patient care.
  • Perform other clinical and administrative responsibilities as needed to support effective care delivery.
Requirements
  • Active, unrestricted professional license authorizing the provision of mental health treatment in at least one U.S. state is preferred. Pre-licensed candidates are also welcome to apply.
  • Relevant clinical education and training in behavioral health, mental health counseling, psychology, social work, or a related discipline, consistent with applicable professional licensing requirements.
  • Ability to provide compassionate and effective behavioral health care to patients with diverse diagnoses, cultural backgrounds, personal circumstances, and levels of clinical acuity.
  • Experience delivering mental health services in a virtual or telehealth environment, or demonstrated ability to adapt clinical practice to remote care delivery.
  • Previous experience supporting patients with cancer, oncology-related concerns, or chronic and serious medical conditions is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, trauma, or other complex behavioral health challenges.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, or other relevant treatment modalities.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and patient progress monitoring skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with patients and collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, oncology providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate clinical records and manage an ongoing patient caseload.
  • Ability to work independently while actively participating in clinical consultations, supervision, and team-based care coordination.
  • Empathetic, adaptable, and patient-centered approach, with a genuine commitment to improving the emotional well-being of individuals affected by cancer.
  • Spanish or Mandarin language proficiency is an additional advantage.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary: $55,000–$75,000, depending on professional experience and licensure.
  • Fully remote working arrangement within the United States.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Flexible paid time off to support personal well-being and work-life balance.
  • Professional malpractice insurance coverage.
  • Extensive initial and ongoing training in evidence-based behavioral health treatment approaches specifically designed for oncology patients.
  • Regular psychiatric consultation and clinical supervision.
  • Continued professional development and learning opportunities in psycho-oncology care.
  • Coverage of eligible continuing education expenses and required professional license renewal costs.
  • Coverage of additional state licensure costs when required for the role.
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced healthcare and behavioral health professionals.
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary, and mission-driven working environment.
  • Meaningful opportunity to improve access to mental health services and positively impact the lives of individuals navigating cancer treatment.
