Job summary

Under supervision of a registered nurse within a multidisciplinary team, the Behavioral Health Associate provides treatment and care to mental health patients at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit. You will engage with patients one-on-one, facilitate sessions, monitor safety, and support clinicians in assessments and court-related processes.

Qualifications

• Two years of college study in behavioral health or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a mental health setting.
• Six months of related clinical experience working with mentally ill patients; OR Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health discipline.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one interaction with patients requiring intense care.
• Facilitate group teaching and task oriented sessions; observe for suicidal or homicidal risk and medication effects.
• Assist with restraint and seclusion procedures and with physical exams; obtain vital signs and collect specimens.
• Monitor and document patient observations per prescribed standards (mental status, response to treatment, intensity of services).
• Complete court petitions, accompany patients to court and testify to substantiate the need for court-ordered treatment.
• Communicate court activity status to professional staff; educate patients and families about rights under the Michigan Mental Health Code.
