Position Summary: The Direct Care Worker is responsible for assisting the Shift Supervisor and Program Manager in maintaining a therapeutic environment for dually diagnosed individuals within the RTF setting who are experiencing emotional dysfunction and require behavioral health treatment. Primary responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment for individuals and staff, assisting with activities of daily living, implementing therapeutic group and recreational activities, and identifying and intervening in potential crisis situations. These positions are full-time and part-time and work a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Unit Specific Performance Objectives:

1. Document observations of individual interventions and responses in progress notes.
2. Involve family in treatment during visiting hours and telephone contacts, reporting outcomes to the treatment team/staff, Shift Supervisor, or Program Manager daily.
3. Identify and act to prevent potential crisis situations and appropriately manage individuals.
4. Communicate effectively by reporting incidents and areas of concern of the individual and unit environment to the RN and supervisory staff.
5. Maintain a safe environment by performing contraband checks, orienting individuals to safety rules, and adhering to all Southwood Hospital and MR/DD safety policies. Check and inspect individuals' personal bins daily.
6. Transport individuals as needed to emergency rooms or medical and dental appointments.
7. Assist in community meetings and groups if necessary.
8. Monitor the cleanliness of the unit, reporting maintenance issues to the Shift Supervisor or Program Manager.
9. Utilize a positive, growth-oriented, and problem-solving approach with individuals, staff, and management.
10. Demonstrate understanding of normal growth and developmental stages of children and adolescents, initiating appropriate treatment based on their needs.
11. Understand milieu interventions and supportive interactions, performing these under the direction of RN and supervisory or management staff.
12. Perform other duties as required.
