Job summary

Montrose Behavioral Health Hospital in Chicago seeks an Admissions Counselor to facilitate admissions, conduct clinical intake assessments, and perform utilization review to assure the appropriate level of care and resources for patients.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN is required.
• One or more years’ experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.
• Current licensure, as required for the area of clinical specialty (RN license, CAC or other clinical counseling/therapy license).
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training offered upon hire).
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Perform benefit eligibility to ensure patient benefits are active at admission and communicate eligibility to the business office and patient.
• Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate recommendations regarding referrals.
• Coordinate admission and transfer from referrals and between levels of care within the facility.
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management and communicate projected admissions promptly.
• Ensure all clinical information from referrals is received prior to admission.
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with the admitting physician, and communicate disposition recommendations.
• Prepare and maintain medical record documentation to obtain payor authorization.
• Admit patient in registration; complete admission and consent forms.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude; address complaints and prioritize patient safety.
• Coordinate care for patients not admitted and arrange follow-up care and referrals.
• Provide urgent attention to patient safety and excellent customer service.
