Behavioral Direct Care Worker II - Evaluation & Stabilization Program - Full and Part Time - Continuous Posting

This is an open and continuous posting for full-time and part-time positions on multiple shifts at the Wrentham Developmental Center in the Southeast area of DDS.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and reliable individuals with a strong work ethic for the role of Behavioral Direct Care Worker (Developmental Service Worker II). These positions are assigned to the Evaluation and Stabilization Unit (ESU) within the Southeast Region in Wrentham, MA. The Behavioral Direct Care Worker provides direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those exhibiting challenging and extreme behaviors. This involves creating an environment that meets individuals' needs in daily living, active treatment, and behavioral and habilitative programs.

Please Note: Depending on assignment, candidates may be eligible for various pay differentials.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Act as an advocate for individuals, demonstrating respect and positive regard for those with developmental disabilities.
  2. Provide support to individuals on behavioral units who exhibit challenging and extreme behaviors.
  3. Monitor the health and safety of individuals, adhere to rules and regulations, and communicate with nursing and DSW supervisors regarding health concerns.
  4. Complete daily reports and document incidents occurring during shifts.
Special Requirements

Applicants must successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) training within 6 months to qualify for this position. Staff unable to complete this training will be ineligible. All interested candidates, including current employees, must participate in the interview process as this role requires specialized training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PABC Certification and/or PABC trainer
  • Experience working with challenging behaviors
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) and its implementation
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress environments
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Ability to develop respectful, caring, and ethical relationships with staff and residents
  • Professional and appropriate communication with colleagues and supervisors
  • Willingness to debrief staff after stressful situations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems
  • Leadership skills to guide and respond to emerging situations
  • Ability to assist and lift individuals with physical disabilities or limited mobility
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and transcribe in English
  • Capability to foster a team-oriented environment
Agency Requirements
  • Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Pass Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification
  • Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications upon completing training
Additional Information

The DDS fills these entry-level positions continuously due to staff turnover and new program development. Positions are available on various shifts, often requiring weekend work and flexibility. This is a 24/7 staff position, and employees may need to perform mandatory overtime as required.
