Overview

Our Behavior Technician role provides CLINIC and HOME BASED therapy sessions to clients that exhibit severe behaviors. Clients also receive ABA services in community settings as appropriate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
  • Supports participants diagnosed with autism and severely challenging behavior of all ages. Challenging behaviors may include aggression, property destruction, self‑injurious behavior, feeding issues, among others.
  • Provides services at the participant’s home, community, or center; most participants begin at a center and treatment is generalized to home or community as appropriate.
  • Collects data about participant behavior through direct observation and documentation.
  • Divides appointments into several treatment intervals with specific interventions and data collection procedures to target individualized needs.
  • Assists BCBAs as directed with behavior assessments, skill acquisition plans, functional analyses, preference assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Teaches participants socially appropriate behaviors identified in treatment plans.
  • Adheres to treatment plans to maintain high treatment integrity and nurture participants’ skills for meaningful outcomes.
  • Communicates intervention results to caregivers and team members daily and attends weekly team meetings for participants on the caseload.
  • Provides direct intervention with a staff‑to‑participant ratio of 2:1 due to the severity of challenging behavior.
  • Completes therapy sessions ranging from 3 to 4 hours, Monday through Friday, and stays 30 minutes after each appointment to finish notes, send daily reports, graph data, and clean up.
  • Participates in caregiver training sessions, collecting data on caregivers’ performance and providing feedback to improve implementation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Crisis Management Training is required: MCPP Intermediate and MCPP Advanced. Training will be provided during onboarding. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of both training levels.
EXPERIENCE
  • At least 2 years of ABA experience working with adolescents and/or adults with profound disabilities, including autism.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated competency in intervention approaches based on Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Competency in employing behavior analytic methodologies, including discrete trial training, naturalistic teaching procedures, differential reinforcement, continuous and discontinuous measurement, and crisis/emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge and physical competency in a formal behavior management safety course, provided through ESSC or an approved affiliate.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and use an iPad and/or other assigned devices.
  • Positive consumer interaction, professionalism, and communication through oral and written skills.
  • Cooperative work with participants, families, and diverse groups; ability to maintain a cordial demeanor.
  • Interpret and implement ESSC policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality on sensitive situations.
  • Pass a post‑offer physical examination, TB test, and provide proof of required vaccinations or positive titers; a signed declination may be acceptable for certain vaccinations.
  • Obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and FBI per Easterseals Southern California requirements.
  • Travel locally; maintain a driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, auto insurance, and vehicle registration.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (ADA COMPLIANT)
  • Carrying/Lifting: Frequent 0‑30 lbs, occasional up to 70 lbs.
  • Standing: Frequent up to 4 hours per day.
  • Sitting: Occasional up to 3 hours per day.
  • Walking: Frequent up to 3 hours per day.
  • Repetitive Motion/Activity: Walking, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.
  • Travel: Up to 50% of time.
  • Environmental Exposure: Unpleasant or hazardous working conditions (noise, yelling, dust, bodily fluids) 20‑50% of work time.
