Job Description
Under the direction of the principal, BCBA and Special Education Supervisor, the Behavior Technician works as a team member with teachers, counselors, school social workers and other appropriate personnel to develop appropriate and positive student behavior. Implements strategies that focus on decreasing maladaptive behaviors and increasing social, communication and adaptive skills.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of, and ability to implement, de-escalation and behavior management techniques
Knowledge of intensive behavior intervention techniques
Knowledge of basic subjects taught including; mathematics, ELA, science and social studies
Ability to monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedure
Ability to develop rapport and interact effectively with students
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to handle emotionally charged situations
Prompts safe and socially acceptable replacement behaviors in order to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem solving skills
Increases the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors by providing access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations)
Accurately collects behavior data including: A-B-C, count, frequency, duration, latency, inter-response time, event, and interval based recording
Follows the behavior plan goals and interventions utilizing sound judgment and seeks out appropriate consultation
Qualifications
Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician as issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) preferred
Experience Working With Students Who Display Challenging Behaviors
Maintain a current certificate in PMT, Physical Management Training (training provided if needed)
Two years of completed coursework in psychology, education, social work, behavioral science, human development or related fields preferred
