Job summary

Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) seeks a Behavior Technician to support students in the school setting, working under Administrators and Behavior Analysts to implement positive behavior strategies and data-driven interventions. The role involves documenting behavior events, participating in team meetings, and ensuring safety as per ACES policies.

Candidates should have a High School diploma with related experience and be eligible for a Connecticut “V” endorsement; RBT certification

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with two years related experience.
  • Knowledge of ACES policies and safety management procedures.
  • Familiarity with data collection and reporting is required.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with students and staff.
  • Effective written and oral communication with team and families.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts positively with students and colleagues.
  • Sets up and monitors data management systems.
  • Maintains clean and orderly environment.
  • Participates in student-centered meetings and trainings.
  • Provides transportation support as needed and may assist with crisis situations.
  • Represents ACES professionally through attendance and completion of duties.
  • Keeps CT “V” endorsement current by completing requirements on time.
  • Completes RBT certification within 10 months of hire date.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
RBT certification from BACB

Job description

Job Brief: Behavior technicians are responsible for assisting in maintaining safety within the school environment by responding to behavior events and working collaboratively with school personnel. Under the direction of Administrators and Behavior Analysts, technicians work to maintain trusting and positive relationships with students; offering support and positive programming. They maintain necessary documentation of behavior events and required data consistent with state reporting. The technician attends team meetings as designed for the assigned program. Behavior technicians may provide transportation support through available posted positions. At times, a technician may drive students for afterschool activities and trips and may be called upon to provide morning and afternoon transportation support for the program. The Behavior technician acts as a resource within the building to assist staff in understanding and improving behaviors. In addition, behavior technicians support teaching staff and students in the acquisition and mastery of the educational curriculumDuties and Responsibilities:Interacts in a positive and professional manner with students and colleaguesCompletes the setup and monitoring of data management systemsMaintains clean and orderly environmentParticipates in student centered meetingsAssists in the completion of student updatesPerforms duties as assigned by supervisorsSupports the program’s behavior management systemAssists with arrival and departure routinesServes on crisis teams as assignedParticipates in assigned trainings and staff development opportunitiesProvides safety assistance in compliance with ACES safety management trainings, local, state and federal regulationsKeeps Connecticut “V” endorsement current by completing requirements in a timely mannerRepresents ACES in a positive manner through personal conduct, attendance and completion of assigned duties.Knowledge of:ACES policies and procedures, inclusive of assigned program specific policies and proceduresSafety management procedures and related local, state and federal laws and regulationsWhen relevant for RBT certification, BCBA certification, or supervision thereof, understands and complies with all regulations and guidelines of BACB.Application of individualized behavior management programs in operationReliability check processes and procedures for data fidelityProcedural fidelity checks processes for on-going programsIndividual student’s profiles, triggers, motivators and their responsesAppropriate prompts and cues to utilize with individuals during crisis situationsSkills in:Oral and written communication to explain, model and relate information to team on an on-going basisProfessional collegiality with peers, leadership and stakeholdersOrganization of required data, plans and quarterly reportsData collection and assessmentUsing all relevant software systems to capture data and generate reports for supervisors, District, State and Federal reportingRelating to students to foster positive relationshipsCommunication with families as directedAbility to:Demonstrate a strong work ethic inclusive of excellent attendanceRecord data in a timely and accurate mannerReview data regularly and notify supervisors of relevant informationAssess reinforcer effectivenessCommunicate student issues to relevant team membersAssist in the analysis of behavioral and instructional dataDemonstrate an understanding for all concepts presented through the ACES Professional Development and related trainings.Fluently discuss and apply strategies based in ABASeek out relevant professional development opportunitiesAssist with training and feedback regarding behavioral skills with staffProvide training and feedback regarding instructional skills when paired with new staffPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
