Job summary

Job Summary

The Behavior Technician implements treatment plans and provides direct line therapy for children, teenagers, and young adults with autism spectrum disorders.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide direct line therapy to clients following all of the guidelines set forth in the treatment plan.
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to work on individualized skill acquisition objectives.
  • Manage 2-3 client cases, including summarizing data, maintaining a program book and materials, participating in treatment planning sessions, and maintaining a good rapport with parents through weekly contacts.
  • Manage challenging behaviors through approved QBS techniques with clients using training and behavior plans provided.
  • Graduate student supervision provided.
  • Participate in required trainings.
  • Attend all scheduled team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work with children, teenagers, and young adults of various developmental levels.
  • Ability to be trained in and comply with Applied Behavior Analysis intervention methods.
  • Following initial staff training (within 90 days), perform New Hire Competencies with 90% accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parents and team members.
  • Professional presentation of self and company.
  • Cultural competence.
  • Must communicate effectively and receptively to follow the behavior plan, emergency procedures, and report on activities.
  • Provide culturally competent services that show sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Education, Certificates, Licenses Required
  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or another related field preferred.
  • RBT preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License, appropriate insurance, and use of own vehicle.
Working Conditions
  • Hours will vary.
  • Flexible schedule and office space.
  • Job requires willingness to work in families’ homes and in the office.
  • Majority of time spent with clients and may include toilet training, feeding, and teaching other daily living skills.
  • Management of challenging/dangerous behavior.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds infrequently.
  • Must be able to react and move quickly to respond to clients’ impulsive movements (children and teenagers with autism).
  • Must walk and stand approximately 75% of the work day.
  • Must bend, kneel, squat, crawl, pivot, and sit on the floor throughout the work day.
  • Must run or quickly move short distances (up to 100 feet) to catch or block clients.
  • Must use physical management techniques, including single or two‑person restraints, to help manage behavior of clients.
