Job description

Description:
The Shakopee School District is currently seeking a Behavior Support Specialist.

This position is 8 hours/day on student days. Pay rate $24.75/hr.
Candidates who obtain a short call sub license will receive an additional $1/hr.

Job Summary and Duties:
Work with students, under the direction of certified staff, to manage behavior through interventions, positive behavior supports, and strategies as outlined in the IEP if applicable.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement behavior intervention plans under supervision of a BCBA.
  • Provide direct support to students and collaborate with teachers and staff.
  • Stay updated on ABA best practices and regulations through ongoing professional development.
  • Uphold ethical practices as outlined in the RBT Ethics Code (2.0).
  • Utilize ABA techniques such as functional communication training, reinforcement systems, and replacement behaviors.
  • Determine the function of student behaviors through data collection.
  • Help implement and document behavior intervention plans with fidelity.
  • Perform and document restraint methods and participate in crisis intervention training.
  • Respond to behavior calls for students as needed.
  • Assist in developing individualized behavior intervention plans based on data and collaborate with team members.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure consistent behavior management.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper data storage.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or related field.
  • Willingness to obtain RBT certification through BACB.
  • Experience working with children with behavioral challenges.
  • Understanding of ABA principles.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and confidentiality skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a school setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to work with students with diverse disabilities.
  • NVCI certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions:
Classroom and office environment, physical activity involved, ability to lift 50 pounds.
