We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. REPORTS TO: Principal
The Behavior Support Assistant (BSA) supports students with significant and complex special education needs, including cognitive, behavioral, communication, and/or medical challenges. BSAs work in structured settings such as Behavior Intervention Programs or self‑contained alternate classrooms, assisting with the implementation of individualized support plans, reinforcing positive behavior strategies, and supporting students’ social, emotional, and functional development.
This role requires participation in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training and the use of de‑escalation and intervention strategies to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
This role requires the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Foundation training certificate and/or willingness to work towards the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS) based curriculum.
NOTE: The safety of school children is an important responsibility of the teacher assistant program. As such, please note that all teacher assistants MUST be available for bus monitoring assignments and will be paid in accordance with the additional hours worked.
