Job description

Overview

The Teacher, Exceptional Student Education (ESE), is responsible for the instruction of all areas of Exceptional Student Education in a classroom setting for the 2025-2026 school year. Contact Penny Winters 813-854-6010 x223.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements appropriate Specially Designed Instruction, accommodations, and supports assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Develops and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students, including present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students with disabilities and maintains a respectful classroom environment.
  • Employs various teaching techniques and approaches to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior using effective classroom management strategies, positive behavior supports, evidence-based interventions, and appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes responsible precautions to ensure health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides oversight to paraprofessionals.
  • Maintains confidential records, inquiries, data and full-time equivalency documentation.
  • Attends workshops and trainings to build knowledge and skills in Exceptional Student Education.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and tasks are not exhaustive and may change according to district needs.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Exceptional Student Education. Student Education Preferred. Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate Required.

Mathematical Skills: Works with relevant concepts and applies fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and interprets instructions in various forms.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands

Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.

Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds.

Reaching Activities: Both hands; overhead.

Environmental Conditions: Moderate noise.
