Responsibilities

  • Utilize and support implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Assist students in de-escalation techniques.
  • Develop relationships with students and relate well to multiple ages of students.
  • Assist students in navigating transitions, managing frustrations, and staying engaged in the general education classroom.
  • Utilize approved crisis intervention techniques to safely de-escalate challenging behaviors and support a safe learning environment for all students.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Support in the collection and documentation of Behavior Intervention Data.
  • Review physical surroundings for safety, especially in crises situations.
  • Teach and model social emotional skills, such as self-advocacy, conflict resolution and coping strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators and district SEL support staff to ensure a consistent approach across all buildings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

PURPOSE:

The Behavioral Paraprofessional provides school-based interventions and support to students that exhibit unregulated emotions or unsafe behavior. The primary goal is to support the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs), foster emotional regulation, and help students bridge the gap between their behavioral challenges and academic success.
