Job summary

Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union Monument Elementary School in Bennington, Vermont is seeking a Behavior Intervention Specialist to support students with complex behavioral needs. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• School-based experience as a teacher, counselor, or behavior specialist preferred.
• Eligibility to hold Vermont Certification in Elementary Education (1-00) preferred.
• Experience with application or advanced behavior intervention strategies.
• Experience working with children with disabilities such as Autism, Developmental Delay, and Emotional Disturbance.
• Experience providing training for implementation of positive behavior interventions & strategies.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document information necessary to perform Functional Behavior Assessments on students with complex behavioral challenges.
• Develop positive behavior intervention plans for individual students.
• Train necessary staff to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists, and special educators to provide targeted, direct academic instruction in a separate setting for students who require additional support to regulate and successfully access learning.
• Maintain appropriate records for the purpose of continuous progress monitoring.
• Provide training for Staff in data collection and documentation of various behavior interventions.
• Participate as a member of educational teams to design, implement and oversee behavior interventions within the classroom and school.
• Communicate with and engage parents in the implementation of behavioral interventions as appropriate.
• Work directly with students in classroom and/or other environments, as necessary, to model behavior intervention strategies for staff.
• Provide direct instruction to students in social skills, self regulation strategies.
• Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the district.
• Adhere to District policies and regulations.
• Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
