Job summary

SCO Family of Services in New York, NY seeks a Behavioral Specialist to develop and monitor individualized behavior modification programs for clients with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities, and to provide ongoing staff training.

You will participate in treatment planning, administer assessments related to community integration, and prepare monthly progress reports for the treatment team, collaborating with psychology providers and families.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university required
  • Minimum of one year experience working with the intellectually disabled population
  • Must possess well developed communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Must be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members
  • Maintain a high quality of work and productivity
  • Ideal candidate will be flexible with working hours and demonstrate reliability in relation to attendance and punctuality

Responsibilities

  • Develop behavior modification programs and provide ongoing monitoring and updating of individual behavior programs
  • Provide ongoing training to support staff on cognitive-behavioral interventional strategies and behavior programming
  • Participate in program planning meetings to discuss treatment plan goals, cognitive behavioral strategies and objectives, review assessments and behavioral observations
  • Administer assessments reflecting individual’s capabilities in relation to community integration
  • Complete and present monthly reports to team members reflecting individuals’ behavioral progress over the course of a specific time period
  • Provide therapeutic consultation to consumers and communicate behavioral progress to family members
  • Collaborate with psychology team of the educational area to coordinate optimal behavior programming
  • Prepare psychiatric/psychological providers in order to coordinate effective behavioral progress
  • Confer with psychiatric/psychological providers in order to coordinate effective behavioral and psychopharmacological therapy
  • Work with families to provide “transfer of training”
  • Provide support to families and staff in emergency circumstances and on-call as needed
  • Keep current in treatment and strategies regarding individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities
  • Participate in all treatment meetings, case reviews, and discharge planning meetings
  • Maintain case notes and records in accordance with program requirements
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
