Position Summary

The Day Program Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) provides direct clinical services to adults with developmental disabilities and/or co‑occurring psychiatric conditions. This role is dedicated to the behavioral and social well‑being of individuals in AABR’s day programs. The BIS develops and monitors individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and provides ongoing staff training to ensure optimal outcomes and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) in accordance with OPWDD 633.16 regulations.
  • Focus on the behavioral needs of individuals who attend day programs but reside in community homes or non‑AABR residences (excluding responsibility for BSPs in outside residential programs).
  • Collaborate with residential BIS clinicians when shared individuals are involved, sharing information and supporting continuity of care.
  • Provide individual and group supportive counseling services.
  • Deliver clinical consultation and training to instructors, assistant instructors, and other program staff.
  • Facilitate proactive and reactive behavior intervention trainings aligned with each BSP.
  • Provide family consultation sessions regarding behavioral concerns when needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings (IDT), Human Rights Committee (HRC) reviews, and other program‑related case conferences.
  • Write and submit monthly behavioral data summaries, annual assessments, and reports as required by program regulations.
  • Provide protocol development for use of assistive devices (e.g., helmets, buckle guards) as needed.
  • Review and follow up on incident reports, including required clinical consultation or counseling.
  • Maintain accurate documentation per AABR and OPWDD standards.
  • Support the residential program on an as‑needed basis, including during coverage gaps, leaves, or urgent cases.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied behavior analysis from an accredited institution.

Must meet one of the following:

  • NYS LCSW or Psychologist license
  • BCBA certification
  • NYS Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)

Minimum two years of experience providing direct clinical services to individuals with developmental disabilities, with at least one year post‑graduate experience.

Proven ability to write and implement BSPs and conduct FBAs.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Flexible schedule, with the ability to accommodate occasional late afternoon or evening hours.
