Sampson County Schools in Clinton, North Carolina is seeking a Behavior Intervention Specialist to support staff with behavior management, prevention, and instructional strategies. Under the supervision of the Student Services Coordinator, you will assess student needs and help develop individualized plans to promote academic and developmental success.

Candidates should hold North Carolina licensure or a Bachelor's in teaching or behavioral science, with 3–5 years in a school-based setting.

Competenze

  • NC licensure or bachelor’s degree in teaching/behavioral science required.
  • Three to five years experience in multi-disciplinary treatment or public school setting.
  • Experience with behaviorally and emotionally disabled students.

Job Description

Qualifications: North Carolina licensure or Bachelor’s degree in teaching, or behavioral science. Candidates with degrees in Social Work, School Psychology, Counseling and other related fields may be considered based on past experience and training. Three to five years experience working in a multi- disciplinary treatment and/or public school setting. Demonstrate experience, commitment, and competence in working with behaviorally and emotionally disabled children. Experiences in communicating effectively during presentations, trainings, meetings, and with members of a team. Experience and training in crisis de-escalation skills and physical restraint methods preferred.

Reports to: Student Services Coordinator

General Statement of Job

Under general supervision of the Student Services Coordinator, the Behavior Intervention Specialist will provide consultation, support, and training to school staff in the areas of behavior management- prevention-intervention, classroom management, and instructional strategies. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will assist in the development of specially designed interventions/plans to ensure maximum potential for academic and developmental success. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will assess the behavioral, academic and developmental needs of students and assist teams in developing a plan to address such needs. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will travel to assigned schools as required and participate in on-going training as needed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide consultation to school staff and school-based teams regarding individual behavior strategies, classroom management, and school wide behavior supports.
  • Provide in-class observations, feedback, and coaching to teachers on the implementation of
  • behavioral strategies for students with behavior problems.
  • Assist in the development, review and monitoring of Student Behavior Plans i.e. Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Manifestation Determination reports/reviews.
  • Collect data and assist with on-going evaluation of behavior plans and interventions with
  • recommendations for modifications provided to teachers and school administration.
  • Provide training in areas of behavior management, prevention, and identification of behavioral, emotional, and academic deficits that negatively impact the learning of students.
  • Maintain certification in a crisis intervention program and provide training to staff within the school system.
  • Work effectively and respectfully with students, family members, school personnel and outside agencies to provide resources as needed for students.
  • Collect data and provide classroom behavior management techniques and modifications for identified areas of need.
  • Promote the visibility of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support efforts in the schools.
  • Maintain communication with parents/guardians regarding the students’ behavior programs.
  • Communicate with outside agencies (Mental Health service providers, Juvenile Justice, Probation Officers, etc.)
  • Develop and implement individualized behavior programs for school-age students.
  • Indentify and assess students using evidenced-based research methods and other designated tools to include: classroom observations, review of pertinent outside agency reports and records, collaboration with parents, teacher, and administration.
  • Provide written documentation and monitoring data when needed to aid in the decision making processes or monitoring of a student.
  • Maintain and assist school staff with strict ethical standards in interacting with students and their families.
  • Provide social skills instruction to students identified in an at-risk target population.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Ability to educate and motivate students in targeted behavioral, emotional or academic goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, families, coworkers, administration, and outside agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of theory, principles and methods of behavior management and the proper application within the educational environment.
  • Considerable knowledge and skills in the application of evaluative tools used to assess students.
  • Considerable knowledge of best practice, intervention and current literature in the field of behavior management.
  • Considerable knowledge and skills in directly providing a wide range of treatment modalities.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct staff development and continuing educational resources to school employees.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized programs based upon the specific and unique needs of the student.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and monitor progress to make data-based decisions.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain confidentiality for students within the school system.
  • Ability to instruct student in social skill development and replacement behaviors.

Special Requirements

Trained and certified in a Crisis Intervention Program, maintaining certification through the proper renewal process, adhering to all time-lines.
