Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a paraprofessional behavior support staff to assist on district campuses. This role requires a High School diploma and 48 college credits with passing CISD paraprofessional assessment to meet NCLB highly qualified status.

You will demonstrate empathy, active listening, and strong communication while moving between campuses and supporting behavior plans, including restraints as a last resort, to maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain data collections as designed by the Coordinator of Behavior Intervention.
• Monitor and coordinate implementation of interventions identified in behavior plans.
• Intervene in crisis situations and use restraints as a last resort to ensure safety.
• Protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; follow regulations and policies.
• Travel between campuses daily with fluctuating schedules.

Job description

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent requirement
• Ability to meet NCLB highly qualified status required (48 accredited college credit hours of passing score on CISD paraprofessional assessment exam)
• Willingness to grow professionally

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrate empathy, active listening skills and emotional control with students exhibiting non-compliant or acting-out behaviors
• Requires flexibility with job assignments to multiple campuses based on student needs
• Must have the ability to move from one location to another throughout the district during the day
• Moderate lifting and carrying
• Potential exposure to human body fluids

• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintain data collections as designed by the Coordinator of Behavior Intervention
• Participate in the implementation of and possible revision of student behavior plans
• Monitor and coordinate the implementation of interventions identified in the student’s behavior intervention plan
• Manage student behavior appropriately. This includes intervening in crisis situations and using approved restraints as a last resort to maintain safety of students, staff and others
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues and students
• Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to colleagues and students
• Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills
• Compile , maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required
• Comply with federal, state, district and school regulations, and policies
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Willing to travel between campuses daily with fluctuating schedules
