Job summary

JOB TITLE: Behavior Coach

DEPARTMENT: Special Services / Assigned Site

REPORTS TO: Principal

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 180 – Contract. 7 hours/day

SALARY: Based on Experience and Education, $16.74 - $19.42 per hour

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: (48) hours of college credit, college degree, or successful completion of Work Keys or Para Pro Assessment
  • Experience: (6) months working with students in special education preferred
  • Skills: Must be able to complete all state required training within the first 120 days of employment. Must be able to successfully complete MANDT or other district provided de-escalation/restraint training.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist, support and work closely with teachers, administrators and other team members providing educational benefit for students.
  2. Based on student placement and/or needs, job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Behavioral support
    • Instructional Support
    • Physical need such as toileting, feeding, and other personal assistance
    • Promote student independence and transition
    • Social/emotional support of student
    • Student supervision
  3. Manages interfering student behavior by implementing positive behavior management strategies designed to promote positive social student engagement
  4. Foster positive school climate by supporting school wide programs and activities
  5. Assist student in crisis
  6. Assist with providing supervision and other behavior needs as directed by principal and/or teacher
  7. Attend trainings and professional development district as directed by classroom teacher, Principal or Special Services
ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR

Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and properly respond to applicable correspondence/communication received. Ability to project a professional company image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position. Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.

Must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork; ability to use sound judgment in any situation; ability to receive and appropriately respond to directions from teacher, principal, or other supervisor; able to deal successfully with changes in assigned job and to properly respond to complaints; able to work cooperatively with district employees and the public while achieving the objectives of the job; ability to maintain student confidentiality regarding student records, classroom functioning and activities; willingness to promote students' rights to due process, dignity, privacy and respect; demonstrates safe and hygienic practices.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Primarily inside working conditions with some exposure to extreme environmental conditions during duty assignments. Some outside duty assignments required with exposure to pollen, heat, cold, wind, humidity or other weather conditions. Exposure to bodily fluids.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

Walking, sitting, lifting, and standing as required to perform responsibilities and to care for or monitor students. Bending/stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling or crawling as necessary to assist and care for students. Ability to react quickly with no advance warning to secure student safety which could include running, chasing or climbing.
