Job summary

The Hawkins County Board of Education is seeking an Educational Assistant to support classroom teachers and students in various activities. The role requires assisting with lesson materials, supervising students, and reinforcing learning concepts under supervision.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and either 48 college credit hours or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment. Regular attendance and effective teamwork are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Assist classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment and demonstrations
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts

Responsibilities

  • Regular and predictable attendance is a core requirement of this position
  • Regular, effective interpersonal communication with team members and stakeholders is required
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment and demonstrations
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
  • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Grade homework and tests and compute results
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials
  • Observe students’ performance and record progress
  • Organize and label materials and display students’ work
  • Organize and supervise games and other activities to promote development
  • Provide extra assistance to students with special needs including physical needs & behavior supports
  • Assist with students: in bus loading and unloading
  • Assist librarians in school libraries
  • Attend staff meetings and PD sessions
  • Collect money from students for school-related projects
  • Laminate teaching materials
  • Maintain computers and assist students with hardware/software
  • Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment
  • Type, file and duplicate materials
  • Use computers and AV aids to supplement presentations
  • Ride the bus to assist students on Special ed Bus
  • Provide behavioral support for students with complex needs
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure success of Hawkins County Schools

Reports To: School Administrator and Supervising Teacher
Qualifications: Minimum of a High School Diploma, 48 hours of college credit OR successful completion of ParaPro Assessment
Purpose Statement: To assist the classroom teacher in providing a quality educational experience for all students
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Educational Assistants’ duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is a core requirement of this position
  • Regular, effective interpersonal communication with team members and stakeholders is required.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment and demonstrations
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
  • Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Grade homework and tests, and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage
  • Observe students’ performance, and record relevant data to assess progress
  • Organize and label materials and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development
  • Provide extra assistance to students with special needs including physical needs & behavior supports
  • Assist with students: in bus loading and unloading
  • Assist librarians in school libraries
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on committees as required, and PD sessions as needed
  • Collect money from students for school-related projects under the direction of the teacher
  • Laminate teaching materials to increase their durability under repeated use
  • Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use
  • Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment
  • Type, file and duplicate materials
  • Use computers, audiovisuals aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations
  • Ride the bus to aid and support students who need monitoring on the Special ed Bus.
  • Provide behavioral support for students with more complex needs (Training will be provided)
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a core requirement of this position.
  • Regular, effective interpersonal communication with team members and stakeholders is required.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the success of Hawkins County Schools and safety of all students and staff.
Capacity and Ability Requirements: The usual job demands require the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity.
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Hawkins County School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
