Job summary

YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is seeking part-time staff to supervise and engage children in a safe, structured childcare program at Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District Elementary Schools. The role runs during the 2026-2027 school year with shifts 6:15am-8:30am or 2:30pm-6:15pm.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 18+ years of age, and CPR/AED/First Aid certification (training provided if needed). Jr. staff aged 16-17 may apply.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification renewed annually (training provided by YMCA)
• JR. staff may be 16–17 years old
• Must be able to participate in activities with children and engage in planned programs
• Position may require coverage outside regularly scheduled hours

Responsibilities

• Supervise a safe childcare program and assist in planning group activities
• Lead games and activities for 10–15 children
• Take daily attendance and ensure signed in/out by a responsible adult
• Provide snacks/meals per USDA/HEPA guidelines and count servings
• Attend staff meetings and YMCA trainings
• Build positive relationships with children, parents, and school staff

Our school year starting rate is $11.00 per hour with the potential to receive more based-on responsibilities.

Position Description

Assist with supervising a safe and well-organized childcare program by planning and participating in-group activities with children at a designated childcare site.

• This position will be located at one of the Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District Elementary Schools
• This position will be for the 2026-2027 school year.
• We are looking for shift coverage from 6:15am-8:30am and/or 2:30pm-6:15pm.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Establish a positive relationship with the program participants.
• Plan weekly activities for a group of 10-15 children.
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children.
• Know where all group members are at all times.
• Lead games and activities.
• Take daily attendance and see that each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day.
• Actively engage children and participants in activities.
• Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants.
• Perform daily count of meals and snacks served.
• Report all injuries and incidences to the site coordinator.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meeting to help plan activities and attend CATCH trainings.
• Develop positive relationships with school principal and staff.
• Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
• Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Must have an interest in and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
• Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
• Must complete all required Redwoods trainings within 30 days of hire and renew annually.
• Must be 18 years of age, have high school diploma or GED.
• Jr. Program staff may be 16-17 yrs of age.
• Job consists of working with school age children and requires the participation in activities with children.
• Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours.
• Must attend all scheduled YMCA trainings, have current CPR certification and uphold the YMCA employee appearance guidelines.
