Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators is seeking a Before/After School Coordinator to plan and implement age-appropriate activities for children, supervise staff, and maintain a safe, engaging program before and after school.

You will develop schedules, coordinate staff, communicate with parents, and handle administrative tasks while ensuring safety and compliance with health guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting, preferably before/after school program.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge of child development and best practices for managing groups of children.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for children before and after school.
  • Supervise children during before/after school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain a structured schedule, including time for academic support, physical activities, arts and crafts, and recreational games.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of program assistants or volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule to fully staff the program and coordinate subs as-needed.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to staff and ensure they are carried out effectively.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss program updates, staff performance, and any issues that may arise.
  • Act as the main point of contact for parents regarding the before/after school program.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on their children’s activities and well-being.
  • Address parent concerns or complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring high satisfaction with the program.
  • Provide a welcoming environment where children feel valued, safe, and engaged.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and important communications.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is in good working order.
  • Assist with registration and enrollment for the program.
  • Ensure that children follow health and safety protocols, including emergency drills, hygiene practices, and nutrition standards.
  • Administer basic first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce rules and policies for behavior, promoting positive discipline and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Administration may assign other duties to the Before/After School Coordinator.
