Hastings Public Schools seeks a part-time Before & After School Childcare Student Assistant (16/17 years old) to help supervise K-6 students at multiple elementary sites. The role offers afternoon and morning hours with no weekend shifts, designed for high school students balancing class schedules.

The position provides hands-on experience in education and youth development, supporting lead staff in a welcoming after-school program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16/17 years of age.
• Prior experience working, volunteering, or babysitting with school-age children is preferred but not required.
• Reliable, patient, and capable of fostering a warm, friendly atmosphere for students.

Responsibilities

• Supervision: Ensure a safe, secure, and positive environment for students during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
• Activity Facilitation: Assist with age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, group games, and outside play.
• Homework Help: Assist students with daily homework and encourage academic engagement.
• Behavior Management: Use positive guidance and conflict resolution techniques to promote healthy social interactions among peers.
• Program Support: Help set up spaces, organize supplies, and tidy up areas after snacks and activities.

Location: 3 Elementary Sites (McAuliffe, Pinecrest, Kennedy)

Hourly Rate: $11.50

Benefits: This position does not quailify for benefits as it is a part-time job.
