Job summary

University of Nebraska–Lincoln is seeking a Cattle Ranch Supervisor at the USMARC near Clay Center, NE. The role supports beef livestock research by managing cattle, pastures, and facilities, and performing routine health care tasks.

Responsibilities include care of 800-1200 cattle, AI and pregnancy palpation, equipment maintenance, and assisting with grazing plans under rotational systems. Travel between pastures is required; irregular hours in various weather.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 4 years beef livestock production experience, or an Associate degree with 2 years beef livestock production experience.
  • Ability to maintain equipment, machinery, fields and pastures.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
  • Pre-Placement Driving Record Review may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of basic to skilled agricultural duties to support research and production activities at an agricultural research facility.
  • Provide general care and husbandry for approximately 800-1200 cattle.
  • Maintain machinery and fences.
  • Assist with pasture management and collection of research data.
  • Oversee daily health care, perform artificial insemination and palpation for pregnancy, and care during calving as needed.
  • Assist with grazing plan development using rotational grazing.
  • Provide occasional supervision for 1-4 employees.
