Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

The Beautician is responsible providing care for the hair and scalp utilizing the skills of the beautician. Styling hair in an appropriate manner for residents, following infection control procedures to prevent infections and/or spread of infections; to manage the beauty shop in a manner to provide safe, maximum care for the residents.

General Purpose

The general purpose of the Beautician position is to provide hair and scalp care to all residents at Centre Care. This service is provided in a safe and pleasant manner, to enhance the sense of self-esteem and stimulate the residents to feel good about their appearance.

Position Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares the resident for scheduled hair care;
  • Gives scalp treatment to those residents who require special care;
  • Cuts, shampoos and styles hair in an appropriate and attractive manner;
  • Evaluates the hair and scalp care of the residents who do not get routine care in the beauty shop on a regular basis (approximately every 10 weeks);
  • Schedules to evaluate the hair and scalp of all new admissions, done within one week of notification from nursing units;
  • Prepares audits on hair and scalp as requested;
  • Keeps record of residents seen and services rendered;
  • Supervises any personnel working in the shop, including volunteers or beauty aide;
  • Keeps the beauty shop clean and attractive at all times;
  • Provides hair care on the nursing unit in a limited manner, for example, hair cuts for the bed rest resident. The nursing staff will be expected to assist if the need arises;
  • Schedules appointments through the Unit Clerk; sending a written appointment slip to the nursing unit;
  • Evaluates any requests for services on the nursing units;
  • Makes the final decision concerning a request for a permanent;
  • Contacts the family if there is a need to do so before any drastic change in previous hair care is being initiated;
  • Cleans and inspects equipment for safety and requests repairs/replacements as necessary;
  • Prepares budget and orders supplies in association with Central Supply personnel;
  • Have ability to manage stress tolerance, pressure and anxiety;
  • Performs additional functions or duties, as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Experience
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED is required.
  • CERTIFICATION: Possession of a beautician’s license issued by the State.
  • EXPERIENCE: Training and experience as a beautician to acquire knowledge of hair and scalp care as it is affected by illness or medications. Experience in cutting and styling hair of diverse ethnic backgrounds is preferred.
