Job description

Our client is an innovative aerospace company developing next-generation propulsion systems for high-performance aviation and industrial energy applications. Working at the forefront of clean-sheet gas turbine development, they're building advanced propulsion hardware designed for demanding aerospace and industrial applications.

Following significant recent investment, they're growing rapidly and are looking for experienced propulsion engineers who want to own critical engine systems from concept through certification and testing.

The Role

We're looking for a Bearings & Seals Lead to own the design, analysis, development, and validation of bearing and sealing systems within an advanced gas turbine engine.

This is a highly technical leadership role where you'll be responsible for defining bearing architectures, lubrication strategies, rotordynamic performance, and durability across the engine.

You'll work closely with mechanical design, structures, aerodynamics, thermal, and test teams to develop robust rotating hardware capable of operating in demanding environments.

If you're passionate about rotating machinery, reliability, and solving complex engineering challenges, this is an opportunity to shape a critical subsystem within a next-generation propulsion platform.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and development of bearing and sealing systems for a high-performance gas turbine engine

  • Define bearing architecture, support arrangements, fits, clearances, housings, and lubrication concepts

  • Perform bearing life, thermal, vibration, and durability analyses using industry-standard analytical tools

  • Work closely with rotordynamics, secondary air, thermal, structures, and mechanical design teams to optimise overall engine performance

  • Develop bearing lubrication and cooling strategies to maximise reliability and efficiency

  • Define and support rig testing, engine testing, validation activities, and hardware qualification

  • Lead failure investigations and implement engineering improvements based on test and operational data

  • Work with suppliers throughout component specification, development, and qualification

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Extensive experience designing bearing systems for gas turbines or rotating machinery

  • Strong understanding of bearing life prediction, contact mechanics, lubrication, thermal behaviour, and vibration

  • Experience with rotordynamic and bearing analysis software

  • Knowledge of gearbox and rotating equipment architecture

  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engine development programmes

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions across multiple engineering disciplines

Nice to Have

  • Ownership of bearing or gearbox systems on aerospace or industrial gas turbine programmes

  • Experience with advanced bearing technologies including ceramic bearings, damped supports, or specialised coatings

  • Knowledge of secondary air and oil systems

  • Experience supporting engine certification programmes

  • Rig testing, validation, and failure investigation experience

  • Supplier development and qualification experience

  • Strong first-principles analytical skills

  • Passion for working in a fast-paced, high-ownership engineering environment

What's on Offer

  • Competitive base salary depending on experience

  • Meaningful equity participation

  • Relocation assistance

  • Flexible PTO

  • The opportunity to lead one of the most critical rotating hardware disciplines within a clean-sheet gas turbine development programme, working alongside an experienced propulsion engineering team from concept through certification and testing.
