About the Role
As an Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe identification, troubleshooting, and completion of underground related electrical maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and perform all electrical repairs on underground equipment and stationary fixed equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in the underground mine.
- Perform electrical maintenance duties on underground equipment to ensure that permissible equipment is maintained in permissible condition.
- Conduct maintenance testing of low to high voltage (13.8kV) electrical equipment in the underground, including transformers, switchgear, protective relays, circuit breakers, cables, and motors.
- Fabricate and install various low voltage electrical equipment (distribution boards, lighting, etc.) throughout the underground mine.
- Repair and maintain instrumentation throughout the mine.
- Operate mine equipment to diagnose problems, position it for repairs, and test operation after repairs.
- Maintain personal hand tools for functionality and cleanliness.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, and vendors.
- Complete daily tasks and provide reports of updated electrical drawings (red lines).
- Implement protective relay settings into existing protective relays based on provided settings.
- Participate in commissioning activities of new equipment installed in the underground mine.
- Establish work relationships to efficiently execute daily electrical activities.
- Actively participate in daily safety meetings.
- Perform and document work area inspections and equipment inspection/operation cards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
- Must have valid MSHA Electrical Certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years underground electrical experience in an underground mining or production environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in system commissioning in an industrial environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Preferred: high voltage experience, shaft and hoist experience.
- Ability to read complex prints and understand electrical codes.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment.
- Excellent communication skills with team members and supervisors.

- Hold safety meetings, conduct safety interactions, and take corrective actions when required.
- Ensure adherence to state, federal, and company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, assessment, and control.
- Maintain a high level of safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
- Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
- Investigate accidents and near misses, report findings and conclusions.
- Maintain environmental awareness, hold meetings and involve the environmental department in related subjects.
- Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans, and regulatory obligations and requirements.
- Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods on uneven, rocky surfaces; sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Walk for up to 4 hours at a time, through different sections of the mine with varying clearance and headroom.
- Wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by company and MSHA.
- Bend or stoop for a full work period due to mine height.
- Climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
- Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) with quick reflex movements of arms and legs and good hand-to-eye coordination.
- Lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, varying light conditions, and confined work areas.
