Job summary

South Bay Union School District in Imperial Beach, California, seeks a Behavior Intervention Assistant to support students in developing educational and social skills within our program. You will work under the Behavior Intervention Specialist, assisting with behavior management during the school day from 8:00AM to 2:00PM.

This role requires an associate degree or 48 college units, and at least two years of behavior management experience, with necessary clearances and certifications maintained.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher required.
• At least two years of behavior management experience, preferably with students with learning/emotional/mental disabilities.
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Pre-placement medical physical, Valid Driver’s License, CPR, First Aid and Handle with Care Training certificates required.

Responsibilities

• Develop appropriate school skills for students in the program.
• Support development of social skills with peers and adults.
• Collaborate with Behavior Intervention Specialist, Director of Student Services or site Principal to support student success.

Job description

Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of Behavior Intervention Assistant is done for the purpose/s of developing appropriate school skills for students enrolled in our educational program, including those who are transitioning from a special education class to general education classes. The Behavior Intervention Assistant works with the student population to support the development of social skills with peers and adults, as well as working closely with the staff on issues related to the educational, social and emotional success of students. A Behavior Intervention Assistant reports to directly to the Behavior Intervention Specialist, Director of Student Services or the site Principal.

Job Requirements – Qualifications:

• Education Required: Associate’s Degree or higher or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university. At least two years of behavior management experience, preferably with students with learning/emotional/mental disabilities.
• Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Pre-placement medical physical, Valid Driver’s License, CPR, First Aid and Handle with Care Training certificates.
