Job summary

Artech is seeking a Battery Modeling specialist on-site in Cupertino, CA. You will perform thermal modeling for all products and work closely with the Product Design team from early stages to guide design with thermal insights.

Day-to-day work includes developing advanced thermo-fluid and multi-physics models of cells and packs, translating power maps to thermal outputs, and running CFD simulations while collaborating with test labs and CAE vendors.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD with 3 years of industry experience.
• Mechanical engineering background with CFD and thermal modeling.
• Expert AEDT Ansys/ICEpak in AEDT.
• Python or scripting language proficiency.
• Prior work experience at the client or in the client's industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop state-of-the-art thermal and multi-physics finite volume models of cell, pack, and subsystems.
• Provide design and trade-off guidance to Product Design teams through early-stage simulations.
• Generate models to convert power maps into thermal outputs.
• Perform advanced thermal/CFD simulations to understand boundary conditions.
• Use best-in-class tools and solvers to produce simulation models and results.
• Work with test and reliability labs to develop physical test methods.
• Collaborate with system teams on detailed sub-models for assembly-level simulations.
• Develop optimized workflows and reusable templates for regular thermal simulations.
• Develop and implement thermal modeling best practices.
• Work with CAE vendors to drive functionality improvements.
• Explore new analysis types and solutions, including topological optimization.
• Extract Reduced Order Models from CFD simulations to speed up exploratory studies.

Job description

Location:On-site, Cupertino, CA (5 days/week)

Introduction

As a member of the Battery Modeling team, you will be responsible for thermal modeling for all products. You will be fully integrated with the Product Design team from the earliest stages, analyzing and informing the design of cutting-edge products. You will also work with cross-functional teams within the company to provide design guidance in terms of thermal impact of the product features.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• MS/PhD with 3 years of industry experience
• Mechanical engineering background with strong foundation in CFD and thermal modeling
• Expert level skillset related to Ansys electronic desktop (AEDT) and Icepak in AEDT
• Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
• Prior work experience at the client or in the client's industry

Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• MS/PhD with 5 years of relevant experience
• Familiarity in Cadence Allegro and electronics layout design
• Familiarity with li-ion cells and battery packs
• Familiarity with NX, Comsol
• Experience in electronics cooling
