Job summary

Schaeffler is seeking a mechanical engineer in Wooster, OH to drive the mechanical development of battery system products. You will structure the system architecture, incorporate risk-based measures, and create detailed subsystem specifications.

You will evaluate reuse opportunities, develop alternative designs, and maintain robust documentation with configuration management. Strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical product design and development, within battery systems or e-mobility.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (Creo) and hands-on documentation experience.
• Strong understanding of DFMEA, risk analysis, and product validation processes.
• Familiarity with DFMA/DFX and configuration management principles.
• Strong analytical skills, structured approach, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills in English (German beneficial).
• External applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mechanical development engineering activities to develop battery system products.
• Develop the structure of the mechanical system based on architecture, integrating risk-derived measures.
• Break down the system into subsystems and components with detailed specifications.
• Review potential reuse of subsystems/components to optimize development efficiency and cost.
• Develop alternative structures and evaluate to select the best solution.
• Ensure traceability with mechanical architecture through documentation and configuration management.
