Job summary

Karma Automotive, Inc. seeks an Engineer I - Battery Software to assist design, development, integration and validation of BMS software for EV/HEV programs. You’ll contribute to requirements, model-based development, diagnostics and release docs under senior engineers, collaborating with systems, hardware, validation and vehicle teams.

The role emphasizes software safety, CAN signaling, testing and cross-functional teamwork in a fast-paced environment with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or CS field.
• 0–2 years of embedded software, controls, batteries, EVs, or related experience.
• Foundational knowledge of model-based software development using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Basic understanding of embedded software development, debugging, and verification methods.
• Basic knowledge of high-voltage battery systems and CAN communication.
• Exposure to MIL/SIL/HIL testing or similar embedded testing methods.
• Ability to analyze technical data and document results clearly.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional environment and manage tasks to schedule.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain BMS functions for battery monitoring and control.
• Create test cases and execute unit, integration, bench, HIL and in-vehicle tests; document results.
• Support the verification of software safety mechanisms from functional safety requirements.
• Analyze test data and defects; identify root causes with team.
• Support BMS diagnostics and CAN communication development.
• Use version-control, issue-tracking, build, flashing, and calibration tools per team processes.
• Collaborate with battery hardware, vehicle integration, functional safety, and cybersecurity teams.
• Contribute to process improvement, tool development, and knowledge sharing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
