Role Description

The Battery Production Testing Supervisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Vista, CA, is responsible for leading ALE’s battery production testing operations and laboratory execution across cell, module, and pack programs. This role supervises daily testing activities, develops and standardizes test methods and procedures, ensures test equipment readiness and calibration, validates data quality and pass/fail criteria, and delivers accurate test results to support customer, R&D, engineering, quality, and production requirements. The Supervisor is accountable for testing safety, quality, schedule, capacity, technician development, continuous improvement, and compliance with ALE’s AS9100D Quality Management System.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily battery production testing operations and technicians, assign priorities and resources, and execute testing schedules to meet customer, engineering, production, and program commitments.
  • Work closely with customers, R&D, Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Operations to collect, clarify, and standardize cell, module, and pack test requirements.
  • Develop, validate, maintain, and continuously improve battery test programs, procedures, methods, SOPs, work instructions, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Oversee safe execution of electrical, performance, cycle-life, characterization, and environmental testing using battery cyclers, thermal chambers, data-acquisition systems, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure test data accuracy, integrity, traceability, review, and timely reporting; investigate abnormal results and coordinate technical troubleshooting and root‑cause activities.
  • Own testing equipment readiness, utilization, preventive maintenance coordination, troubleshooting, calibration status, fixtures, consumables, and recommendations for equipment upgrades or additional capacity.
  • Develop testing capacity and resource plans based on program demand, equipment availability, cycle duration, staffing, and customer priorities; identify bottlenecks and implement recovery or expansion plans.
  • Ensure Battery Testing compliance with ALE’s AS9100D Quality Management System, including controlled procedures, document and configuration control, calibration records, training records, test traceability, nonconformance control, corrective actions, and internal/customer audit readiness.
  • Establish and enforce EHS requirements for battery testing, including safe handling of lithium-ion cells and packs, electrical/high‑voltage hazards, thermal events, test chambers, emergency response, PPE, and laboratory housekeeping.
  • Lead customer test onboarding from requirements reviews through test setup, execution, data delivery, and closure; clearly communicate schedules, risks, constraints, technical issues, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain test fixtures in collaboration with engineering and ensure fixtures, cables, connectors, sensors, and measurement systems are appropriate, controlled, and safe for use.
  • Train, qualify, coach, and develop battery testing technicians; establish skill matrices, standardized work, cross‑training, and clear performance accountability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in laboratory workflow, test throughput, equipment utilization, turnaround time, data quality, and testing cost while maintaining safety and technical rigor.
  • Develop, track and report Battery Testing KPIs including test schedule attainment, turnaround/cycle time, equipment utilization and uptime, calibration compliance, test completion, retest rate, data‑quality issues, safety, and customer/program deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physical Science, or related science/engineering field.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct battery testing, battery laboratory, or related lithium-ion industry experience; prior supervisory or technical team leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with battery cyclers, thermal chambers, electrical measurement equipment, data acquisition, test fixtures, calibration, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of lithium-ion cells, module, and pack testing, test‑method development, data analysis, and validation of pass/fail criteria.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100D or similarly controlled quality systems, including calibration, traceability, controlled documentation, nonconformance/CAPA, and audit requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Hands‑on, resourceful, safety‑focused, and comfortable working in a fast‑growing manufacturing and laboratory environment.
Duties Reports

Battery Testing Technicians/leads and/or laboratory technicians.

  • Battery testing laboratory and manufacturing facility with exposure to lithium-ion batteries, electrical systems, thermal chambers, chemicals, and powered equipment.
  • Requires PPE and strict adherence to laboratory, electrical, battery, and EHS safety procedures.
  • May require response to urgent testing, equipment, production, or customer needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Capable of standing and walking for extended periods and working around laboratory and production equipment.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, reach, safely lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. as required.
