Who we are looking for

As the Battery Pack Electrical Design Engineer at Re:Build, you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of our pioneering battery solutions. You will lead the electrical design and analysis, collaborating closely on decision-making processes to launch our innovative battery solutions. This position supports all program phases, including concept development, detailed design, prototyping, comprehensive analysis, manufacturing, and testing. You'll be responsible for developing layouts, CAD models, and prototype models, and presenting high-quality results to customers and key business partners.

What you get to do
  • Own the electrical design and development of lithium-ion battery systems for various applications, including electric vehicles, aerospace, renewable energy storage, and more.
  • Work on improving battery performance, energy density, and safety.
  • Identify core issues, develop solutions, and optimally communicate the impacts across internal and external teams.
  • Create and deliver CAD models and presentations to customers.
  • Conduct tests to evaluate battery performance under different conditions. Analyze data to identify potential improvements and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in battery technology. Innovate new materials and methods to enhance battery performance.
  • Communicate across engineering teams to make program critical decisions. Work multi-functionally to verify battery software and hardware meet the system needs and battery pack requirements.
  • Work closely with program management, engineering, procurement, and manufacturing to integrate battery systems into products. Ensure the battery design meets the overall product requirements.
  • Ensure all battery designs follow key industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop supporting material for design such as bill of materials, assembly, or installation procedures.
What you bring to the Team
  • 3 or more years of system design for lithium-ion battery packs or related technologies.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience for automotive, aerospace, industrial or related industries.
  • Experience in design, developing, and testing of battery systems for electrified propulsion or stationary energy storage.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including strong technical communication.
  • Self-directed with strong leadership, team building, collaboration, communication, organizational skills, and a history of demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Basic understanding of UL, or similar, and regulatory certification processes.
  • Proficient with CAD programs such as CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with electrical layout, design, and analysis programs.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar with strong emphasis on practical work, and equivalent experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering or similar, with a strong emphasis on practical work or equivalent experience.
  • 2 or more years of project management experience.
  • Experience with BMS software development and control algorithms.
  • Experience with mathematical modeling of batteries or experimental work in the field of batteries.
Location Requirement:

Position is based out of our Pittsburgh PA plant.
