Job summary

Apple Inc. in San Diego seeks a Battery Engineering professional to design, develop and test BMUs and battery monitoring units for next-gen consumer electronics. You will work with suppliers to develop custom parts and design test methodologies to verify BMU designs.

Responsibilities include pushing performance, specifying PCBs, conducting design validation, collaborating with Product Design, System EE, Firmware, and other teams, and creating production test plans for manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant field.
  • Experience in analog IC design (DACs, LDOs, SMPS) or related area.
  • MS degree and 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/Verilog-A for modeling.
  • Background in Power Electronics or Battery Management is a plus.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Push technologies to maximize performance and minimize volume via modeling.
  • Specify custom parts and PCBs for BMUs.
  • Analyze designs with simulations to verify requirements.
  • Create IC models and perform model validation.
  • Conduct design validation on prototypes and prepare builds.
  • Lead design reviews and release design documents.
  • Collaborate with Product Design, System EE, Firmware, and more.
  • Prepare investigations and reports for issues.
  • Develop schematics and component selections for BMUs.
  • Define production test plans and coordinate with CM partners.

Description

In this role, you will utilize your electronics design skills to design, develop and test battery monitoring units and Battery management units (BMU) for next generation consumer electronic products. You will work with suppliers to develop custom parts where needed and design test methodologies to verify the battery management unit design!

Responsibilities
  • Push the boundaries of technologies to maximize performance and minimize volume through modeling and simulation
  • Specify custom parts and PCBs for use in BMUs
  • Analyze the design with simulation tools and calculations to verify its conformance to the requirements.
  • Create IC models, and conduct model validation
  • Conduct design validation on prototypes to implement the design
  • Conduct design reviews, incorporate team feedback and release the design documents for builds
  • Collaborate with multi-functional partners (Product Design, System EE, Cell Engineering, Firmware, Algorithms, etc.) to ensure the product is developed on time and
  • Conduct investigations and prepare reports for problems or issues
  • Develop schematic and guide component selection to meet all physical and electrical requirements of BMU.
  • Specify production test plans and limits and work with CM partners to realize design
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant field of study
  • Experience in analog integrated circuit design such as DACs, LDOs, SMPSs or relevant
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS degree and 10+ years relevant industry experience
  • Experience with creating and using real-numbered models in System Verilog or analog behavioral models in Verilog-A/MS
  • Industry experience in Power Electronics, Battery Management (fuel gauge and charger), Portable Consumer Electronics, Medical Electronics, or Automotive Electronics
  • Experience scripting in Python, Shell, Unix, or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing
  • Experience developing a list of tests from the datasheet to determine chip coverage
  • Ability to create functionally equivalent models to the associated portions of the design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience presenting data to cross-functional teams and/or management
  • Understanding of the silicon manufacturing process and how semiconductor devices and associated parasitic subcircuits are created

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $166,600 and $296,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
