Job summary

Rivian in Normal, IL seeks a Manager of Automation Controls Engineering to lead the equipment engineering controls team across production shifts. The role reports to the Director of Engineering and Maintenance and focuses on delivering reliable, safe, and scalable automation for high‑volume manufacturing.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in controls engineering, leadership, and hands-on support for PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, safety compliance, and MES integration.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Electrical/Controls related field or equivalent.
• Experience leading Controls Automation Engineers teams.
• Experience with vendor and project management tools (JIRA, Confluence).
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of safety and electrical standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA, NFPA79, NEC, UL508A).

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day automation engineering team supporting production and improvements.
• Oversee version control of equipment programs, configuration files and docs.
• Handle RFQ prep and review vendor proposals for manufacturing automation equipment.
• Lead equipment buy-offs for FAT, SAT and safety at Rivian’s Normal, IL facility.
• Drive continuous improvement of production lines by reducing cycle time and downtime.
• Develop and enforce controls standards and share lessons learned across projects.
• Triage escalations for critical production downtime across shifts.
