Job summary

YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a Basketball Referee I non-certified to support youth sports in Granby, CT. You will officiate games, enforce rules, and help maintain a safe, orderly, fun atmosphere for participants and families.

Experience with the sport is helpful; CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire is preferred; YMCA Program Instructor certification is a plus. You will report to the Wellness Director and support program operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of rules and regulations for basketball officiating.
• Previous officiating experience preferred.

Job Title: Basketball Referee I non-certified

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Grade:

Primary Department: Youth Sports

Reports to: Wellness Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Basketball Referee will be responsible to assist in the daily operation of the program(s). Officiate at competitive athletic or sporting events. Detect infractions of rules and decide penalties according to established regulations. Includes all sporting officials, referees, and competition judges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Referee assigned game(s).
• Enforce the rules and regulations of assigned game(s).
• Assist site supervisor in maintaining orderly and fun atmosphere for assigned game(s).
• Maintain game records and information as directed by supervisor.
• Ensure safety is a priority at all times.
• Know all emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
• Complete accident/incident reports as necessary and submit to supervisor.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
• Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to visibly observe children.
• Ability to stand for an extended period.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment from one location to another.
