The Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Sports Official to organize and officiate YMCA youth/adult sports, ensuring a welcoming and fair environment for participants of all ages. The role requires arriving 30 minutes before games, enforcing rules, providing basic first aid, and assisting staff with field and court setups while communicating information to participants and guests.

Candidates should be 16+ with knowledge of sports rules, CPR/First Aid within 30 days, and strong communication;

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16 years old.
  • Experience officiating sports preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sports rules and regulations.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Team player with a service-oriented attitude and inclusivity.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and enforce game rules per YMCA philosophy.
  • Attend all Sports staff meetings as required.
  • Render first aid and complete required documentation.
  • Arrive at the game site 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
  • Assist facility supervisor in setting up and taking down fields/courts.
  • Distribute information or equipment as requested by supervisor.
  • Check play area for hazards before each game.
  • Enforce facility rules as needed.
  • Promote the YMCA's values and mission to participants and guests.
  • Lead by example the Y's vision and culture.
  • Become an ambassador of the Y's work and brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

How You Will Make An Impact (Essential Responsibilities)
  • Interpret and enforce the rules of the game according to YMCA Youth/Adults Sports philosophy.
  • Attend all Sports staff meetings as required.
  • Render first aid as needed and complete and fill out the required documentation.
  • Arrive at the game site 30 minutes prior to the game.
  • Assist facility supervisor in setting up and taking down fields/courts.
  • Distribute information or equipment as requested by the facility supervisor.
  • Check the play area for hazards prior to the start of each game.
  • Enforce any rules specified for the use of the facilities as needed.
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to Power Your Purpose (Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Minimum age of 16 years old.
  • Previous experience officiating sports events is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of various sports rules and regulations.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications which must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude and you can work well with others.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.
