Job Description

Reporting To: Athletic Director

Employment Status: Part-time, Seasonal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay: $3000.00 stipend

Summary Of Core Responsibilities & Org Relationships:

The JV Basketball Coach is responsible for developing and leading a competitive basketball program that emphasizes athletic excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. The coach provides instruction in the fundamental skills and strategies of basketball while fostering a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture that reflects the mission and values of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the basketball program
  • Develop and implement practice plans that promote individual skill development and team success
  • Establish clear expectations for student-athletes regarding conduct, academics, attendance, and sportsmanship
  • Build a positive team culture that promotes respect, accountability, and leadership
Coaching Responsibilities
  • Teach basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, game strategy, and sportsmanship
  • Evaluate player performance and make roster and playing time decisions based on established program expectations
  • Prepare the team for competition through effective planning, scouting, and game management
  • Supervise athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team activities
  • Promote injury prevention and safe training practices
  • Encourage academic achievement and monitor student eligibility requirements
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior
  • Foster confidence, resilience, teamwork, communication, and leadership among student-athletes
  • Support the social and emotional well-being of team members while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school staff, officials, and the athletic department
  • Maintain accurate team records, schedules, equipment inventories, and program documentation
  • Assist with scheduling contests, coordinating transportation, and organizing team events
  • Manage the program budget in accordance with school policies
  • Ensure proper care, storage, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms
Compliance
  • Follow all school policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all state high school athletic association rules and regulations
  • Maintain required coaching certifications, CPR/AED, first aid, concussion training, and any other required credentials
  • Promote and enforce good sportsmanship among athletes, coaches, and spectators
Job Specifications:
  • Previous basketball coaching experience preferred

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job
Must be able to:
  • Hear, speak, and effectively communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization
  • Ability to stand and move throughout practices and competitions
  • Ability to demonstrate basketball skills and drills
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to travel with the team to practices and competitions
Tools and Equipment Used
  • Must be able to use computers, telephones, photocopiers, and related office equipment
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 10-35 pounds occasionally depending on your position
  • The work environment is indoors.
  • May occasionally participate in off-site student activities for away games
Work Schedule
  • Seasonal position requiring practices, competitions, tournaments, evening and weekend commitments, and offseason planning and development as needed.
