Bath County High School in Hot Springs, Virginia, is seeking a Basketball Coach for BCHS Varsity Boys. • Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know (must be renewed on an annual basis)
• Coaching courses as required

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the entire program including coaching varsity or junior varsity squad
• Supervises assistant coaches as needed 9-12
• Determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time
• Positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community
• Gives guidance to middle school coaches feeding into high schools
• Implements District athletic department polices
• Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches as needed
• Works with the Athletic Director on game scheduling, contest officials, travel arrangements, and equipment
• Prepares budgets, equipment and supply requisitions; arranges athletic insurance; coordinates scouting
• Plans facilities or modifications; organizes middle school clinics; correlates practice schedules
• Maintains staff relationships with coaches; attends conference meetings; ensures VHSL compliance
• Cares for athletes and injured athletes; maintains inventories and equipment; prepares award lists
• Performs other duties as assigned by Principal or Athletic Director

COACH: Bath County High School

Reports to High School Athletic Director and High School Principal

Physical Requirements:

Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. The ability to travel between locations.

Essential Functions & Duties

• Assumes responsibility for the entire program including:
• coaches the varsity or junior varsity squad,
• supervises assistant coaches as needed 9-12,
• determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coach at the respective level.
• positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community,
• gives guidance to middle school coaches and programs feeding into respective high schools,
• implements District athletic department polices.
• Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches as needed.
• Works with the Athletic Director in:
• formulation of game schedules
• selection of contest officials
• arrangements for out-of-town trips
• arrangements for physical examinations
• preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
• preparation of budgets, equipment and supply requisitions
• solicitation of athletic insurance
• scouting arrangements
• planning of new facilities and/or modification of existing facilities
• 10.organization of middle school clinics as directed by Athletic Director, assist middle school coaches in their related programs
• Works with building athletic director to correlate the practice schedules
• Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team participation
• Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games.
• Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
• Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
• Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees.
• Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved. Operates within the policies of VHSL.
• Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
• Keeps informed on current trends in designated sport and participates in respective clinics.
• Maintains active membership in related professional organizations
• Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contest.
• Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.

Working Conditions

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Often subjected to extremes of cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, odors, mists, dust and poor ventilation.

Hazards

Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases. Travel between locations will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.

Work Year

Extra duty/extra pay positions are for a fiscal year (July 1-June30). Duties of the position may be performed any time during that time period depending upon the position/season.
