Job summary

Kildeer-Countryside CCSD #96 in Illinois seeks a Wrestling Head Coach to lead the middle school wrestling program, organize practices, coordinate competitions, and mentor student-athletes.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations.
  • Knowledge of wrestling foundations and skills.
  • Available before and after school, and occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Prefer previous wrestling coaching experience.
  • Concussion training completed.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate and promote the team and team activities within school events.
  • Determine team make-up and the process to join (with administration).
  • Coordinate and supervise daily athletic practice, weekly meets and games.
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for participation.
  • Develop athletic skills of middle school athletes.
  • Maintain accurate records and results of team performances.
  • Enforce discipline and oversee consequences for breaches of standards.
  • Create a practice schedule balancing sport with students' schedules and event coverage.
  • Remain up to date on concussion protocols.
  • Communicate with students and families on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with Administration and other coaches on challenges.
  • Build relationships with the students.
  • Model fun and engagement in the events.
  • Model the enjoyment of the process and trying their best.

Job description

Wrestling Head Coach

Purpose: The wrestling coach is responsible for the facilitation of the wrestling program. The coach will develop the program and provide students with a rewarding extra‑curricular team experience that will build skills in wrestling as well as foster team building. The coach will facilitate team organization and development, weekly practices and student competitions.

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Qualifications
  • Possesses a Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Background and knowledge of wrestling foundations and skills
  • Organized with effective communication skills with students and adults
  • Available to meet before and after school, and occasional evenings and weekends
  • Prefer previous experience with wrestling
  • Successful completion of concussion training
  • Be certified through an IESA approved coaches education program. A person with a substitute‑only license or paraprofessional license must complete one of the approved coaching education courses in order to serve as a coach.
  • Dates: The role begins in November with tryouts and runs until March with Regional, Sectional, and State competitions. Practices are during the week from 3:15‑4:30 pm, or after if needed.

  • Create a practice schedule that balances kids’ interest in the sport with their schedules and the need for full event coverage
  • Remain up to date on concussion protocols
  • Understand and accommodate for individual student needs
  • Communicate with students and families on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with Administration and other coaches on any challenges that arise
  • Build relationships with the students
  • Model fun and engagement in the events
  • Model the enjoyment of the process and trying their best
