Job summary

The University of California, Merced is seeking a part-time (38% FTE), 1-year contract team coach under the direction of the Head Coach, Men's Basketball. The role includes recruiting, retention, coaching, game and practice management, and monitoring student-athlete academic progress and eligibility.

Responsibilities include NCAA compliance, assisting with game and practice management, and evaluating athletes while promoting professional conduct at events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited institution.
• 1 year of related experience, or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.
• Specialized knowledge of the team sport and basic coaching principles.
• General knowledge of NCAA rules.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with athletic participants.
• Knowledge of NAIA rules.
• Valid driver's license (required).
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of NCAA, conference, and athletic department rules and regulations related to student-athlete eligibility.
• Assist Head Coach with management of games and practices, including drills, conditioning, and statistics.
• Analyze performance and recruit future student-athletes within NCAA rules.
• Observe players to identify areas for improvement and evaluate performance.
• Represent and promote professional conduct at events and games.
• Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
