Job summary

Cal Poly Maritime Academy is seeking a part-time Basic Needs Student Assistant for Solano Campus to help operate the Campus Pantry and support student services. The role involves food donation handling, client assistance, and coordinating pop-up events during pantry hours.

The student will participate in education seminars on food insecurity and health topics, contribute to semester reports, and assist with marketing materials and outreach to students and campus partners.

Qualifications

  • Typing and keyboard skills and the ability to use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to create artistic flyers for events with the use of Canva, Photoshop, etc.
  • Ability to use word processing, excel, and other Office products
  • Ability to respond to phone and in-person inquiries or route calls as appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation

Responsibilities

  • Distribute food to Pantry clients.
  • Interact with and assist Pantry clients.
  • Set-up & manage Pop-up Events to distribute: Fresh Fruits & Veggies on a weekly basis
  • Receive food donations and inventory Pantry supplies and food.
  • Prepare and distribute additional resources to Pantry clients.
  • Prepare weekly summaries of Pantry activities and semester reports of Pantry attendance.
  • Support creation of marketing materials such as flyers, newsletter updates, and social media.
  • Collaborate with on- and off-campus organizations to support the Pantry.
  • Implement projects for the continued evolution and improvement of the Pantry.
  • Work directly with students to guide them through the application process for CalFresh benefits program.
  • Plan and execute at least two-three program a semester that provide either community service and outreach, and/or learning opportunity for all students at Cal Maritime.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Summary:

The Student Assistant will work approximately 20 hours per week. Students will be required to work during Campus Pantry operating hours, including donation and food sorting shifts and food distributions. Interns will also participate in educational seminars featuring community speakers who work on food insecurity and various health issues and provide one educational program/speaker to bring to the campus.

Job Duties:
  • Distribute food to Pantry clients.
