Job Description

Suttons Bay Public Schools is hiring a VarsityBaseball Coach and a Middle School Baseball Coach to lead our teams for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience coaching is preferred, although those who have played the game will also be considered.

Qualifications
  • Experience coaching baseball preferred
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school age kids
  • Leadership and organizational skills
Performance Responsibilities
  • Must conduct regular practice and team conditioning, both in and out of season
  • Ability to motivate and lead student athletes
  • Instruct the team on game strategies, techniques and skill building
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and sportsmanship
  • Responsible alongside the Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration and philosophy of the sport
  • Adheres to the MHSAA Coaches Guidebook and Suttons Bay Coaches Handbook
  • Acts as a positive role model on and off thefield
  • Engages with local and community programs related to the sport
  • Maintains competency in MHSAA rules, event procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport
  • Communicates effectively with the Athletic Department regarding scheduling, budget, injuries, etc.
  • Communicates effectively with Suttons Bay Athletic Boosters in support of their program
  • Communicates effectively with parents and the community regarding all aspects of the program
  • Follows district policies and procedures regarding facility use, transportation, purchasing, fundraising, etc
  • Alongside the Athletic Director, assigns duties, supervises and evaluates sub-varsity coaches (varsity coach only)
  • Helps to recruit and retain sub-varsity coaches (varsity coach only)
  • Provides adequate supervision of events until all athletes have left the facilities
  • Maintains adequate records of rosters, stats and awards
  • Effectively recognizes the efforts of student-athletes and plans special events in this regard (banquets, Senior/Parent night, etc.)
  • Establishes and maintains the importance of the meaning of student-athlete, including check-ins with all stakeholders regarding student eligibility
Terms of Employment
  • Part-time, sport season position
  • Pay is based on Schedule B of the SBEA contract
  • Athletic positions are for a period of one season (school year) and require yearly Board of Education approval with positive evaluations.
