Detroit Tigers, Inc. is seeking an Associate, Baseball Analytics (Seasonal) to support the Baseball Operations group with data infrastructure, statistical analysis, and modeling that shapes on-field decision-making.

This hands-on role involves cleaning data, building queries and tools, and providing support during the Rule 4 Draft and trade deadline. You will work with a team that values rigorous analysis and independent thinking, perform data prep and analyses, and contribute to developing data

Job Title: Associate, Baseball Analytics (Seasonal role)

Job Summary:

The Associate, Baseball Analytics is a seasonal position supporting the Baseball Operations group with the data infrastructure, statistical analysis, and modeling work that shapes on-field decision-making. This role sits close to the action — from cleaning and structuring the data sets our analysts rely on, to building the queries and tools that surface new insights, to lending support during high-stakes moments like the Rule 4 Draft and the trade deadline. It’s a hands‑on opportunity to apply statistical and programming skills to real baseball problems, working alongside a team that values rigorous analysis and independent thinking in equal measure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Analytics staff in conducting research and analysis to enhance on-field improvements and uncover new insights and opportunities.
  • Aid in the statistical analysis and modeling of baseball-related data.
  • Assist in creating, developing, testing, and maintaining specialized data collection systems and tools.
  • Design and implement custom database queries tailored to meet specific data retrieval requirements.
  • Attend Baseball Analytics meetings regularly to understand the department’s operational procedures.
  • Regularly review and analyze publicly available baseball research.
  • Provide support during major baseball events, including the Rule 4 Draft and the trade deadline.
  • Address ad hoc requests from the Baseball Operations teams and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the staff of the Baseball Operations Department.
  • Provide comprehensive support with importing, cleansing, and preparing baseball data sets for detailed analysis.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Practical experience with R/Python or similar software and languages for statistical analysis and visual presentation.
  • Practical experience in SQL or similar languages for database queries and understanding of database design principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of baseball‑specific data, advanced statistical methods, and sabermetric analysis.
  • Highly motivated with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in software development, encompassing requirements identification, system design, coding, testing, and deployment is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment, in‑person in Detroit.
  • Some evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required, as dictated by the baseball season schedule.
